              What is the GRI?
The Graduate REALTOR® Institute, (GRI), is a nationally recognized designation.  The designation sets the standards for real estate professionalism, knowledge and productivity, by providing sound training in the critical skills of the real estate business.  The GRI designation signifies a dedicated and knowledgeable professional within the industry.

The GRI designation is granted through state associations whose Institute courses of study meet the standards established by the National Association of REALTORS®.  Colorado’s GRI ranks as one of the country’s top Institute programs and cutting edge in technology with the full curriculum available on-line.

Who should earn the GRI?

Agents, brokers, office managers, and new REALTORS® all benefit from the up-to-date information offered by the REALTOR® Institute of Colorado. Additionally, GRI courses offer state and nationwide networking opportunities. The program provides a strong foundation for other national and state designations.

                                                            How to get started

1.    Click here to login and complete the online GRI application and submit the $75 non-refundable fee. Click here for a faxable PDF GRI application.

2.    Begin taking GRI curriculum classes. Click here to search and register for a course. The course tuition varies, check with the association where you register for a course for specific pricing. Please make special note of the start times for each class as they will vary between Education Centers. 

3.    All course work must be completed within 4 years of the completion of the first class.

4.    Upon successful completion of the curriculum a pin and certificate will be awarded along with information on using the GRI designation in advertising and on business cards. Colorado Association of REALTORS® GRI Requirements
Effective Monday, August 2, 2010

The Graduate, REALTOR® Institute is an esteemed institution of the National Association of REALTORS®.  Only 20% of all REALTORS® nationwide hold the GRI Designation.  The Colorado Association of REALTORS® and CAR Education Services take great pride in offering top notch curriculum and instructors to help you attain the GRI Designation.

To receive the GRI Designation the following requirements must be met:

1. Be an active REALTOR® in good standing at your local association.

2. The GRI application must be submitted with the one-time $75 fee. (No annual dues)

3. Complete the 15 required courses within 4 years.

4. Notify CAR of any approved courses completed as a substitution for a required course.

Eligible Courses for Substitution

Due to the National Association of REALTORS® requirements for the GRI, no other substitutions will be accepted unless listed below. In certain circumstances, CAR may review a GRI course taken in another state for substitution. Any courses submitted for substitution must be taken within the same 4 year time period in which a student is trying to achieve their GRI Designation.

Continuing Education Credits

GRI Courses Online

Many of the GRI courses are also available through our online education partner, Van Education Center.  GRI courses completed through VanEd are reported to CAR and posted on your transcript within 45 days of completion. Please visit http://www.VanEd.com to begin classes online now!

Completion of the GRI

If you believe you have completed all requirements for the GRI Designation.  An email must be sent to cares@ColoradoREALTORS.com.  Please include your name, NRDS identification number, certificates for any substitutions, and the address you would like your completion certificate to be sent.  Completion certificates are processed and should arrive within 10-14 business days of your email.  


GRI Applicants prior to August 2, 2010:

If you applied for and started your GRI courses prior to August 2, 2010, please send an email to CARES@ColoradoREALTORS.com for a review of your transcripts.  CAR Staff will evaluate your transcript, you may qualify under previous requirements to achieve your Designation.
