Colorado REALTOR® Scott Matthias Named Finalist for National Association of REALTORS® 2025 Good Neighbor Award for Work with Veterans
The Colorado Association of REALTORS® (CAR) proudly announces that CAR Past President Scott Matthias, broker associate with Madison & Co. Properties in Greenwood Village, has been named one of ten national finalists for the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) 2025 Good Neighbor Awards. The awards honor REALTORS® who make extraordinary differences in their communities through volunteer work that uplifts individuals and families across the nation.
Now in its 26th year, NAR’s Good Neighbor Awards have recognized 260 REALTORS® in 44 states, Puerto Rico, and 17 countries. Each year, five winners receive $10,000 grants for their charities, and five honorable mentions receive $2,500. The public can vote for their favorite finalist between October 7 and November 6 at realtor.com/goodneighbor.
“Each of these finalists reminds us that the heart of real estate is people and communities,” said NAR President Kevin Sears. “Their efforts go far beyond helping clients buy or sell a home. They are building hope, opportunity, and stronger communities every single day.”
Matthias is being recognized for his leadership and volunteerism as co-founder and co-manager of Knock Knock Angels Colorado, a nonprofit that provides home makeovers—complete with furnishings, décor, and “great reveals”—for veterans and single mothers transitioning from homelessness or unstable housing into permanent homes. The organization, which he co-leads with Barrett Miller of Checkmate Moving & Storage, serves nearly 70 individuals each year.
“I’ve always had that volunteer giving spirit. My parents instilled that in me,” says Matthias. “I’m a big believer in: You get by giving. I have it on my business card. In my sphere of influence, they know me as a [real estate agent], but lately they know me as Knock Knock Angels.”
Founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, Knock Knock Angels Colorado grew from Matthias’s decades of volunteer experience in building homes and schools internationally. Inspired by a fellow NAR Good Neighbor Award winner, Matthias adapted that same spirit of service to meet local needs closer to home.
“He is the most giving person. He has so much energy, and he gives of his time, of his money, of his resources. He is just go, go, go, and he is an absolute joy to work with,” says Barrett Miller, co-founder of Knock Knock Angels Colorado.
Matthias, a U.S. Navy veteran’s son, dedicates each home makeover in memory of his and Miller’s fathers, both veterans who passed away during the pandemic. Through collaboration with local housing organizations such as Hope House Colorado and HUD-VASH, the group has transformed hundreds of lives by creating comfortable, dignified homes filled with community support and personal touches.
“It would take me all day to tell you everything I know about what this man has done in his lifetime. He is my role model, my inspiration. I cannot stress what a giving human being he is. If it’s humanly possible, he does it,” adds Miller.
“Scott embodies the REALTOR® spirit of service, integrity, and compassion,” said CAR President Dana Cottrell. “His work reminds us that real estate is about so much more than property—it’s about people, families, and the power of home.”
The winners of NAR’s 2025 Good Neighbor Awards and the Web Choice Favorites will be announced on November 10, 2025.
