Fort Collins REALTOR® Sean Dougherty Appointed to Commission on Property Taxation

Colorado’s newly established Commission on Property Taxation is set to begin work this month on a solution to rising property tax bills in Colorado. Fort Collins REALTOR® Sean Dougherty, a longtime REALTOR® leader and former Larimer County commissioner who also serves on the Legislative Policy Committee for the Colorado Association of REALTORS®, has been appointed to serve. Dougherty was appointed by House Minority Leader Mike Lynch and will offer his real estate expertise to the 19-member commission. Formed in response to the defeat of Proposition HH and the subsequent special legislative session, the commission’s goal is to find sustainable solutions to the escalating property taxes, a situation intensified by the 2020 repeal of the Gallagher Amendment, leading to significantly higher property tax bills.

This diverse commission, tasked with finding a balance between necessary funding for local governments and schools and the increasing tax burden on homeowners, plans to meet bi-monthly until March. Their aim is to develop recommendations for the governor and Legislature, potentially shaping Colorado’s property tax policy for the foreseeable future.

Additional information on the commission’s members and its objectives is available at Colorado Newsline.
