ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – The Colorado Association of REALTORS® (CAR) announced Representative Matt Gray as a 2018 Legislator of the Year Award recipient at its 2018 Fall Forum for his notable legislative efforts in support of the American dream of homeownership. This is the second year CAR has recognized Colorado legislators for their commitment to homeownership and REALTOR® priority issues. It is also the second time Rep. Gray has been honored with this award.

Rep. Gray was an integral piece in the legislative process to provide remedy to SB17-215, the 2017 real estate sunset bill that required a single renewal date for licensees through the successful passage of HB18-1227. The bill provided the Division of Real Estate the statutory authority to change the expiration date of real estate licenses from an anniversary date to a calendar renewal on December 31 of the third year after issuance. It also corrects the problem of inadequate education offerings for some rural areas or local boards without an available course during that transition period. HB18-1227 was signed into law by Governor John Hickenlooper on April 23, 2018.

A resident of Broomfield and Democratic member of the Colorado House of Representatives, Rep. Gray was elected to represent District 33 which includes Broomfield, Superior and Erie. As a member of the Colorado General Assembly, Rep. Gray serves on the House Business Affairs and Labor Committee, the House Finance Committee and the House Local Government Committee. Prior to taking office in 2016, Rep. Gray served as a deputy district attorney, vice chair of the Adams County Youth Initiative, and chair of the Broomfield Board of Equalization.

“Our legislative policy committee, comprised of members throughout the state of Colorado, has carefully considered this decision and believes that a legislator whose approachability and eagerness to help clean up policy that will provide REALTORS® across the state access to fulfill continuing education requirements and ultimately improve real estate practices is a Champion for the industry,” said CAR Chair Ann Hayes. “As members of the REALTOR® community, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Rep. Gray for his devotion to Colorado and support for REALTOR® priority issues.”

“REALTORS® guide Coloradans through one of the most significant purchases of their lives – their homes. Therefore, Colorado REALTORS® work diligently to pursue public policy that builds better communities, preserves our environment, improves real estate practices and ensures economic vitality,” added Hayes. “As a Colorado Association of REALTORS® Legislator of the Year, we salute Rep. Gray’s legislative efforts to support the American dream of homeownership.”

The Colorado Association of REALTORS® is the state’s largest real estate trade association that represents more than 26,000 members statewide.
