REALTOR® Donations Help Homeowners During ‘the Darkest Period’
For homeowners affected by the Marshall fire, the time between the disaster and receiving much-needed federal and insurance dollars is uncertain. “it’s the hardest, darkest period that these victims have to walk through,” said CAR Foundation Executive Director Amy McDermott. “Our hope is that this funding can bridge that gap.” The Foundation has received over $2 million to give to homeowners during this time, and almost 300 homeowners have applied for these funds. The Foundation hopes members can spread the word to those whose homes burned and need assistance for mortgage and rent payments. Applicants must use the money to pay for their primary residence.
When asked what it meant to have so many REALTORS® step up to provide immediate assistance to the people who lost their homes in the Marshall Fire, CAR Foundation Executive Director Amy McDermott praised REALTORS® efforts. “It means everything to us. As you all may know, REALTORS® are truly the heart of their community,” she said. “They are out there every day, working with homeowners and potential homeowners that are in the neighborhoods…so this is hitting really close to home for REALTORS® in the area, but also statewide and across the country.”
