Colorado Association of REALTORS® honors Durango REALTOR® Jarrod Nixon as 2024 REALTOR® of the Year; Select members throughout state also honored for distinguished service

ENGLEWOOD, CO – Jarrod Nixon, a broker with Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties in Durango, CENGLEWOOD, CO – Jarrod Nixon, a broker with Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties in Durango, Colorado, was named Colorado REALTOR® of the Year by the Colorado Association of REALTORS® (CAR) at its annual Inaugural dinner in Denver.

The award is the most prestigious award given to a CAR member and is a culmination of a distinguished career within the REALTOR® organization— at the local, state, and national levels. In addition to leadership within the association, the REALTOR® of the Year is a person active at the community level and successful in business.

“Jarrod is the ultimate example of REALTOR® spirit. Since becoming a REALTOR® in 2004, he has selflessly served his industry and led by example. He has given hundreds, if not thousands of hours of time to his industry both inside and outside the REALTOR® organization,” said DAAR Executive Officer Amanda Erickson. “He is honest, diligent, rational, and thoughtful, while at the same time hilarious, warm, friendly, and kind. It has been a joy and a privilege to be a part of his leadership journey.”

A REALTOR® member for 20 years, Nixon has played a pivotal role at CAR, the Durango Area Association of REALTORS® (DAAR), and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and has a strong passion for advocacy. He started his advocacy journey on the DAAR Government Affairs Committee in 2005, earning “Rookie of the Year” in 2006, and remains a vital member to this day. Seeing the need for local advocacy support, he’s even served as a volunteer Government Affairs Director for DAAR – an uncommon role for a volunteer leader. Nixon is the co-founder of the local Legislative Action Coalition, an advocacy partnership between the local REALTOR® Association, Homebuilders association, Chamber of Commerce, and Energy Council (Oil and Gas Association). Nixon served as DAAR President in 2011 and was recognized by the association as the first ever two-time winner of the Durango Association of REALTORS®’ REALTOR® of the Year.

At the state level, Nixon served as a CAR Director, as CAR’s Southwest District Vice President, on the CAR Legislative Policy, and CAR Political Action Committee. Nixon showed his commitment to consumer protection by serving on the Colorado Real Estate Commission, for six years, two of which he served as Chair of the Commission. He is a two-time recipient of CAR’s Distinguished Service Award and has served as a media spokesperson for the state for more than six years.

Nixon has also been involved at the national association level. He has served on the National Association of REALTORS® Resort and Second Home Committee and the REALTOR® Party Member Involvement Committee. He also served as Federal Political Coordinator for U.S. Representative Scott Tipton.

Nixon’s civic volunteerism is also admirable. He served three years on the Southwest Colorado Board of Directors of the American Red Cross and six years on the Southwest Colorado Board of Directors for United Way.

“Jarrod embodies the REALTOR® Spirit. He tirelessly advocates for the distinguished REALTOR® brand of ethics and has successfully represented CAR as our regional spokesperson to the public and others within our industry,” said colleague and fellow REALTOR® John Lucero. “His belief that what we do in business and policy truly matters to our members, clients, and the general public is not just a belief but a vision that inspires many.”

In addition to honoring Nixon with the REALTOR® of the Year award, 2024 CAR President Jason Witt presented the association’s Distinguished Service Awards to honor outstanding contributions to the real estate industry and the association.
