CO REALTORS® Inducted into NAR RPAC Hall of Fame
Five Colorado REALTORS® will be inducted into the NAR RPAC Hall of Fame in May during the 2014 REALTOR® Party Convention and Trade Expo. They will be honored for their commitment to RPAC and their investment of over $25,000 during their career as REALTORS®.
Kit Cowperthwaite
A former lawyer, Kit left a long-time practice in 1993 to begin a full-time career as a REALTOR®. He quickly became involved, serving as a Director and ultimately President of the Denver Board of REALTORS® and eventually as 2007 President of the CAR. Kit has served as a National Director since 2004 and a member and state representative of several political advocacy and public policy-oriented committees.
“We simply must continue to encourage all our members to make generous voluntary RPAC contributions. They are vital to our profession and livelihood and critically important to the preservation of private property rights and interests everywhere.”
Michael Labout
Michael has been a residential REALTOR® in Colorado Springs since 1982. He has served as a Director and President / Chairman of the Board of the Pikes Peak Association of REALTORS®, and held numerous CAR positions such as a Director, Vice-President, and Treasurer and was President of the Colorado Association of REALTORS® in 2006. He has also served on the Board of Directors for NAR and as NAR Regional Vice-President in 2012 as an officer of the National Association. He currently serves as an NAR RPAC Trustee and is Co-Chair for Colorado RPAC in 2014.
“I believe RPAC is the single most important commitment that you can make to our real estate industry and the health of our business, our clients and the protection of how we make a living. Investing in RPAC is the best business career insurance and every single REALTOR® and our clients benefit from those that support RPAC at the local, state and National level. “
George Harvey
George was licensed in real estate in 1984, and has lived in Colorado even longer. George was a founding member of the Telluride Association of REALTORS® in 1987, served as their President in 1993, and earned Telluride REALTOR® of the Year in both 1993 and 2007. He served as the President of CAR in 2010. He remains active on both NAR committees, RLI, and many CAR leadership opportunities as well.
“I’ve always felt that investing in the political process and The REALTOR® Party is important for our profession and our clients. We are an issues-based organization and if we don’t participate in protecting and improving property ownership and use- who will?”
Joe DiVito
Joe has served on more boards than we could possible mention; from the Steamboat Springs Chamber of Commerce, to serving on the Board of Trustees for the Jefferson County Public Library. Joe has served many years in the REALTOR® community as well, including numerous elected positions for the Jefferson County Association of REALTORS®. He has also served as CAR Director on behalf of the Jefferson County Association of REALTORS®.
“The importance of giving is to provide funding to candidates who are in support of REALTORS® and their needs.”
Michael Marcus
First licensed as a REALTOR® in 1994, Michael moved to Colorado in 2000. Michael and his wife Laurie, who is also a REALTOR®, head the #1 ranked Marcus Team at Coldwell Banker. He served two 3-year terms on the Board of Directors of the South Metro Denver REALTOR® Association, two years as the RPAC Fundraising Chair for SMDRA and RPAC Fundraising Co-Chair for CAR, and a year as the National Association of REALTORS® RPAC Major Donor Council Whip.
“RPAC works hard for REALTORS® and their clients helping preserve private property rights and the American dream of home ownership. If one believes in the goals of RPAC, and I do so very strongly, then one has no choice but to support RPAC to the best of one’s ability.”
