Colorado Association of REALTORS® Honors 2017 Legislator of the Year Alec Garnett

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Alec Garnett, House Assistant Majority Leader for District 2, was awarded the 2017 Legislator of the Year Award by the Colorado Association of REALTORS® on Monday. Rep. Garnett is one of the first recipients of the award, given to a Colorado legislator who has put considerable effort into legislative efforts that support the American dream of homeownership.

Alec Garnett is a fourth generation Coloradan who represents Denver in House District 2. First elected in 2014, he currently sits on the Appropriations, Education, and Business Affairs and Labor Committees. As Assistant Majority Leader in the state House, Rep. Garnett was a Prime Sponsor and critical force in keeping House Bill 17-1279 (Construction Defect Actions Notice Vote Approval) moving to enable business groups and trial attorneys to reach an agreement on a longstanding problem in Colorado that prevented the building of attainably-priced housing

“We’re proud to recognize a legislator who consistently makes the effort to consult stakeholders and prides himself on finding compromise across the aisle at the legislature. And working together to get a construction litigation reform bill on the Governor’s desk was no easy task,” said CAR Chair Ann Hayes. “Our legislative policy committee, comprised of members throughout the state of Colorado, has carefully considered this decision and believes that a legislator who helped construction litigation reform become a reality is a legislator that clearly took the steps necessary to enhance the ability of Coloradans to achieve the American dream of homeownership.”

The protection of property rights is recognized as an important link to general prosperity and a cultivator of future economic growth.
