CAR’s Government Affairs Talks Trends in Colorado Real Estate

Liz Peetz, CAR’s Vice President of Government Affairs, was interviewed on the Rocky Mountain Mechanical Contractors Association (RMMCA)’s podcast Tradeswork in November. She spoke about attainable housing, workforce housing, and how the housing market is an economic indicator for builders.

“The cost of regulatory compliance is rising. It is taking two years to get a permit approved,” said Peetz. She said the issue goes beyond green building codes and new fire codes. There is an impact on the buyer–the cost gets passed down to them. She had this advice for RMMCA members: “If you aren’t talking to your local government permitting officials, you should. There is a lot of state money out there—grant money left from 2021 and 2022, that money will go away. Go in and support a good project in your neighborhood. Those dollars won’t be there forever.
