The Leadership Team

The Leadership Team is authorized to approve policies relative to employee issues, to approve certain budget augmentations within a division when the overall division budget is unchanged and to act on issues of a legal nature when immediate action is required or advised.  The Leadership Council shall present other matters of importance to the Board of Directors through the Leadership Council.

The Leadership Council

The CAR Leadership Council shall, in the interim between regular meetings of the Board of Directors, conduct the affairs of CAR according to the policies and instructions of the Board and shall meet on call of the Chair.  The CAR Leadership Council is composed of the Chair, Chair-elect, Immediate Past Chair, Treasurer, Appointed Past Chair, District Chairs, Division Chairs and local Board AE Representative.  The CEO serves as a non-voting ex-officio member of the Leadership Council.

Chair of the Board

Purpose

 

The Chair of the Board is the highest ranking officer of the Council and assures the integrity of the Board of Directors, processes and, secondarily, represents the Board to outside parties.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Presides over all Board of Directors, Leadership Team and Leadership Council Meetings
  • Serves as an ex-officio member on all Board of Director Committees including but not limited to:
    • Leadership Team
    • Leadership Council
    • Finance Committee
    • NAR Director Committee
    • CAR Board of Directors
    • Colorado REALTOR® Foundation Board
  • Makes decisions that fall within topics covered by CAR policies on Governance Process and Board of Directors/Staff Linkage, except where the Board of Directors specifically delegates portions of this authority to others.
  • Appoints members and chair persons for each Board of Directors committee/advisory groups
  • Keeps the membership and Board of Directors informed on the progress of meeting the Board of Directors end goals
  • Serves as a NAR Director during term of office recognized by NAR
  • Represents CAR at all NAR required meetings during term office recognized by NAR
  • Work with CAR staff through CEO
  • Selects four members of Evaluation Task Force of CEO; Immediate Past Chair serves as Chair.
  • Attend the following meetings:
    • CAR Spring and Fall Business Meetings
    • NAR Mid-year Meetings and Convention
    • Rocky Mountain Region XI Conference
    • Other national and state leadership, membership and local association outreach meetings as necessary

Chair-Elect of the Board

Purpose

 

The Chair-elect supports the Chair of the Board and if necessary perform the duties of the Chair at the Chair’s direction.  The Chairman-Elect shall succeed to the office of Chairman.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Supports and performs such duties as designated by the Chair
  • Oversees and encourages performance of District Chairs
  • Selects Chair-elects for CAR divisions, and CAR standing committees
  • Serves as an ex-officio member on all Board of Director Committees including but not limited to:
    • Leadership Team
    • Leadership Council
    • Finance Committee
    • NAR Director Committee
    • CAR Board of Directors
    • CAR Business Services Board
    • Colorado REALTOR® Foundation Board
  • Attend the following meetings:

    • CAR Spring and Fall Business Meetings
    • Rocky Mountain Region XI Conference
    • Other leadership, membership and local association outreach meetings as necessary or directed by the Chair of the Board

Treasurer

Purpose

The Treasurer oversees the financial management of the Colorado Association of REALTORS®.

Responsibilities

 

Serve as Chair of Finance Committee

Renders a year-to-date report of the financial condition of CAR to

  • Leadership Council and Finance Committee (monthly)
  • CAR Board of Directors (Quarterly)

Serves as a member on:

  • Leadership Team
  • Leadership Council
  • CAR Board of Directors
  • Colorado REALTOR® Foundation Board

Attend the following meetings:

  • NAR Mid-year Meetings and Convention
  • CAR Spring and Fall Business Meetings
  • Rocky Mountain Region XI Conference
  • Other leadership, membership and local association outreach meetings as necessary or directed by the Chair of the Board

Immediate Past Chair

Purpose

The immediate Past Chair supports the efforts of the Chair of the Board and serves in an advisory role.

Responsibilities

  • Chairs Evaluation Task Force of CEO
  • Serves as a member on:
    • Leadership Team
    • Leadership Council
    • CAR Board of Directors
  • Present report(s) to CAR BOD at CAR Business Meetings and other times when advised
  • Attend the following meetings:
    • NAR Mid-year Meetings and Convention
    • CAR Spring and Fall Business Meetings
    • Rocky Mountain Region XI
    • Other leadership, membership and local association outreach meetings as necessary or directed by the Chair of the Board

Appointed Past Chair

Purpose

The Appointed Past Chair supports the efforts of the Chair of the Board and serves in an advisory role.

Responsibilities

  • Chairs Past Chair/REALTOR® of the Year Dinner
  • Serves as liaison to Past CAR Leadership
  • Serves as a member on:
    • Leadership Team
    • Leadership Council
    • CAR Board of Directors
  • Present report(s) to CAR BOD at CAR Business Meetings and other times when advised
    • Recognizes all Past CAR Chairs in attendance at CAR BOD Meeting
  • Attend the following meetings:
    • NAR Mid-year Meetings and Convention
    • CAR Spring and Fall Business Meetings
    • Other leadership, membership and local association outreach meetings as necessary or directed by the Chair of the Board

District Chairs

Purpose

The District Chairs assists the Chair of the Board in administration of CAR Business in their respective regions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as CAR ambassadors to share and gather feedback from local associations in their region.
  • Serves as a member on:
    • Leadership Council
    • CAR Board of Directors
  • Present report(s) to CAR BOD at CAR Business Meetings and other times when advised
  • Attend the following meetings:
    • NAR Mid-year Meetings and Convention
    • CAR Spring and Fall Business Meetings
    • Other leadership, membership and local association outreach meetings as necessary or directed by the Chair of the Board

Division Chairs

Purpose

The Division Chairs assists the Chair of the Board in administration of CAR Business in their respective areas.  When committees, task forces, workgroups are assigned to your area they are to reinforce the direction of the CAR BOD.

CAR has three (3) divisions:

  • Board Services
  • Government Affairs
  • Member Services

Responsibilities

  • Help prepare business plan for activity(s) assigned
  • Meet quarterly if needed for progress update with staff liaison
  • Serve as an ex-officio member on all designated Board of Director committees, task forces, workgroups assigned to your Division in addition to:
    • Leadership Council
    • CAR Board of Directors
  • Present report(s) to CAR BOD at CAR Business Meetings and other times when advised
  • Oversee respective chairs and volunteers on assigned committees, task forces, workgroups to ensure they are operating within Policy Governance.
  • Attend the following meetings:
    • NAR Mid-year Meetings and Convention
    • CAR Spring and Fall Business Meetings
    • Rocky Mountain Region XI Conference (Government Affairs Chair only)
    • Other leadership, membership and local association outreach meetings as necessary or directed by the Chair of the Board

Association Executive Representative

Purpose

The Association Executive supports the Chair of the Board and serves as an ambassador for CAR to all local REALTOR® Boards.

Responsibilities

  • Chair AE Forum at CAR Business Meetings
  • Chair AE Conference call every two weeks to share ideas and information
  • Serve on CAR Leadership Council and CAR Board of Directors
  • Present report(s) to CAR BOD at CAR Business Meetings and other times when advised
  • Attend the following meetings:
    • NAR Mid-year Meetings and Convention
    • CAR Spring and Fall Business Meetings
    • Other leadership, membership and local association outreach meetings as necessary or directed by the Chair of the Board

DIRECTOR ASPIRATIONAL PLEDGE

 

This pledge is based on the Director’s aspiration to participate in a Board of Directors that will assist and support the Colorado Association of REALTORS® (“CAR”) in the implementation of its Mission of “Protecting the Real Estate Industry and Making REALTORS® More Successful.”

As a Director, I am committed to assisting the Colorado Association of REALTORS® in implementing its Mission and adhering to its governing documents, policies and procedures.

I, ___________________________________________, a Director of the Colorado Association of REALTORS®, and volunteer leader of the Association, am responsible for the direction and future of the Association.

As a Director, I will aspire to act and think strategically; contribute to the discussion to set goals and strategies for the future; and seek input from members, stakeholders and staff, and promote diversity among our members and the industry.  As a Board member, I will aspire to continuously contribute my time, expertise and knowledge to inspire the Association to align with its mission, values, and vision.
